Wildlife Fun Week August 2009 |
The owners of Dunscar are keen to encourage children to take an interest in all aspects of nature, including gardening and wildlife. Accordingly, as one of our events for the Summer holidays in 2009 we organised Wildlife Fun Week. As well as a Butterfly Hunt and several other competitions we arranged for local “Barn Owl Bill” to talk about his work to rescue owls. He brought with him a selection of his owls for customers to stroke and even hold whilst posing for photographs. In all, over 120 people attended and raised £400 for the charitable trust.

Christmas at Dunscar |
At Christmas we not only stock a good range of top quality trees, including the better non drop varieties, and a wide range of Christmas gifts and foods, but also turn the garden centre shop into a Christmas wonderland with a wide choice of Christmas decorations and an opportunity for the children to meet Santa. We generally invite a local charity to arrange Santa’s visits and to use the event as a means to raise money. In previous years we have helped Derian House Children’s Hospice, the NSPCC, the North West Air Ambulance and Macmillan Cancer Relief to raise thousands of pounds for their very worthy causes. If you are involved with a local charity and would like to organise a Christmas event to raise funds then please contact our General Manager.
