Paul Richards has been appointed as an official partner to Dunscar Garden Centre for garden design.

Based in Lancashire, Paul Richards Garden Design has designed projects across the UK, ranging from small urban gardens to cottage courtyards, and city roof terraces to large country gardens. Paul has won Gold and Silver Gilt medals for his shows at the Southport Flower Show and also won the Student Garden Design Competition in 2006 when he graduated in Garden Design from Myerscough College.

Paul said: My philosophy is to work closely with every client to ensure that their newly designed garden is original and exciting, while fulfilling their desires and expectations. It's great to be working with Dunscar, which is at the heart of the local gardening community and I'm looking forward to meeting and working with customers from across the local area.

In response to increasing demand over the past few months, we opened a new coffee shop alongside the Garden Cafë in mid August. The new area is open for light refreshments including soup and sandwiches and also offers soft seating, a convivial and lively atmosphere and contemporary wall art to relate the origins of tea and coffee, as well as a wider choice of our own blend coffees from J Atkinson's of Lancaster. Following the success of our Wildlife Fun Week and the visit by Barn Owl Bill and his owls, we have decided to sponsor an owl to support Barn Owl Bill's rescue and sanctuary work. Dunscar is a 16 week old snowy owl (like Hedwig in Harry Potter). His sister's mate recently died and she has been depressed ever since. With our support, Bill has been able to bring Dunscar from Staffordshire (where he and his sister were bred) as company for his sibling. We strongly support Bill's efforts not just to rescue owls in distress but also his educational talks and demonstrations to children. We firmly believe in developing children's natural nurturing instinct and directing it towards wildlife or gardening. We will be including on our Environmental pages further images and updates on Dunscar's progress through life.

We have just heard that we have won the Taste Lancashire Quality Award. The award is granted by a partnership of the Tourist Board and Made in Lancashire organisations. The partnership recognises the importance of the food and drink industry to Lancashire, and has developed this scheme to give acknowledgement to those establishments who provide a consistently high quality eating experience. In order to win the award we had to demonstrate that we are committed to sourcing locally produced foods and that our menu reflects Lancashire's rich food heritage. We have still to receive our award officially but were given the good news after a mystery shopper tried out our facilities one lunchtime.
